Birds: Friends, Fascination, Freedom Recital

Sunday, May 21, 2023

Candace McKenna, Soprano, accompanied by Janice Halvorson on piano will present Birds: Friends, Fascination, Freedom at 4:00 p.m. Sunday May 21, 2023 in the St. John’s Sanctuary.   Helping them with the hour-long program is John First (poetry) and Jackie Roelen (violin).

Inspired by a crow that proffered friendship in a time of need, this recital will explore the human-bird connection over the centuries.  The music features composers ranging from Mozart, Haydn and Bizet to folk tunes, a spiritual and Sondheim’s Green Finch and Linnet Bird.   A reception hosted by St. John’s Creation Stewards will follow the program in the St. John’s Parish Hall.

There is no charge for admission, but donations will be gratefully accepted and be used to make the St. John’s gardens more bird friendly.
