Stormwater
The 2026 Stormwater Management Program Plan (SWMP) is available for comment!
Email iliakis@snohomishwa.gov with any comments and questions.
Snohomish receives a lot of rain each year, so we also get a lot of stormwater runoff. This runoff travels along roads, through yards, and over roofs, collecting pollutants such as fertilizers, oils, bacteria, and sediment along the way. It then flows into our local waterways, from the surface or through underground stormwater pipes.
These waterways are vital to the health of our ecosystems and the safety of our community, and the city is determined to keep as many pollutants out of them as possible. One way we are staying on track is through the federally required NPDES (National Pollution Discharge Elimination System) Permit, which ensures regular inspections, prompt responses to illicit discharges, and public education campaigns, among other topics. Outlining projects the city works on during the year, the city releases a SWMP Plan (Stormwater Management Program). You can find the most recent SWMP Plans, yearly NPDES reports, and more information below.
If you become aware of any illegal dumping of pollutants or notice any spills, call City Hall during and after work hours at (360) 568-3115, leave a report to the city at the Citizen Portal, or report the issue to WA Department of Ecology at its Environmental Reports Tracking System.
Help keep our waterbodies clean, and remember, only rain down the drain!
