Road Construction
EXPECT ROAD/LANE CLOSURES AND TRAFFIC DELAYS IN 2014.
In 2014 traffic will be disrupted along two of the City’s main transportation corridors (2nd Street and Avenue D). The following road projects are scheduled to be under construction from early spring to late summer of 2014:
- 15th Street/Avenue D Roundabout
- 2nd Street/Lincoln Avenue Traffic Signal Improvements
- 2nd Street Overlay from Avenue D to Cedar Avenue
- 2nd Street Overlay and Utility Improvements from Avenue D to Avenue H
- 2014 Transportation Benefit District (TBD) Street Preservation (location to be determined in 2014)
The following is a status of the road projects:
- 2013 TBD Street Preservation Project has been completed.
- Weaver Way from Seneca Avenue to east end of cul-de-sac. Asphalt overlay and utility adjustments were completed in August.
- Hillcrest Drive from 13th Street to Madrona Drive. Asphalt overlay and utility (water and storm) improvements were completed in September.
2. 15th Street/Avenue D Roundabout – Design has been completed. Awaiting WSDOT approval. Construction is
scheduled for 2014. Project consists of roundabout construction, asphalt removal, road realignment, shoulder
restoration, sidewalk improvements, channelization, traffic control, temporary lane closure, drainage improvements,
ADA ramp improvements and landscaping.
3. 2nd Street/Lincoln Avenue Traffic Signal Improvements – Construction began in early October. Phase 1 has been completed which included sidewalk, ADA ramp improvements, curb and gutter, light pole base and conduit
installation, asphalt patching, temporary striping, top soil and grading of the Centennial Trail realignment. Phase 2
will begin in February 2014 to complete the project. Phase 2 consists of traffic signal and pedestrian poles
installation, completion of the Centennial Trail realignment, asphalt overlay of the intersection, channelization, and
landscaping.
4. 2nd Street Overlay from Avenue D to Cedar Avenue – Design has been completed and approved by WSDOT in
accordance with the grant funding requirements. Construction is scheduled for 2014. Project consists of asphalt
overlay, channelization, traffic control, temporary lane closure, and ADA ramp improvements.
5. 2nd Street Overlay and Utility Improvements from Avenue D to Avenue H – Construction funding was awarded to the
City by the Transportation Improvement Board in November. Design to be completed in-house. Construction is
scheduled for 2014. Utility improvements will be coordinated with the overlay.
6. 2014 TBD Street Preservation Project – Location(s) to be determined by the TBD Board in 2014.
7. 30th Street Widening (at SR 9) – Design funding was awarded to the City by the Puget Sound Regional Council in
September. Project consists of road widening (adding a combined through/right turn lane), traffic signal improvements,
paving, sidewalk improvements, retaining wall, channelization, traffic control, temporary lane closure, drainage and
ADA improvements. Design is expected to be completed in 2014.
