Arts Advisory Board
Purpose
The Snohomish Arts Advisory Board (SAAB) is a community-driven advisory group that guides public art policy, artist selection, and cultural programming in Snohomish. The board works in collaboration with City departments to ensure arts initiatives are inclusive, impactful, and aligned with community values.
Goals
- Advise City staff and Council on public art policies and cultural investments.
- Engage the community through inclusive arts programming.
- Build partnerships with artists, nonprofits, and cultural organizations.
The Board is managed by the Community Engagement & Strategic Initiatives (CESI) team, who will lead, coordinate partnerships and logistics; and act as liaison to City Council.
The Board may also work closely with Public Works (site feasibility, installation logistics, maintenance), Planning (zoning, design standards, and long-term city plans), and Finance (financial feasibility and sustainability) staff.
Membership
The Board will consist of 7–9 members, selected for their artistic, cultural, and technical expertise, with an aim for balanced representation across disciplines:
- Visual artists
- Performing artists
- Design professionals
- Cultural and heritage representatives
- Youth or emerging artists
- Tribal representation
- Arts professionals from government or nonprofits
- Community members passionate about public art
Note: One City Councilmember may serve in an ex-officio role.
We are currently seeking members for this new board!
Applicants will be evaluated on:
- Civic engagement and collaboration
- Representation of underrepresented or tribal perspectives
- Artistic, cultural, or design expertise
- Public art or arts board experience
Non-residents may be considered if they bring relevant expertise or lived experience. Terms are three years, renewable up to three consecutive terms.
